Ah, its a fresh, new year. A nice time to glance back and look forward, count blessings and make plans. I wish my life was really that contemplative. Instead, I tend to be like "whoa, what just happened?" as the next thing is coming up. We bumped along this year, enjoying some really great moments (celebrations, vacations in Wyoming & Colorado) and some low spots (bad reports, surgery), but overall we're thankful for the life we have.
The year ended on a bit of a disappointing note, as Bobby's checkup in December wasn't great. After having surgery in September to remove his left adrenal gland, we went to the appointment apprehensive about a couple of spots on his lung that we'd been watching. Well, the lungs looked stable, but wouldn't you know, there was a progressing tumor in the left adrenal gland. This was especially disappointing since previously we had seen the left adrenal return to what seemed like normal.
Dr Keller suggested three different options for going forward, two of which are current treatments (Avastin w/Interferon and Votrient). The third option is to be a part of a Phase II Clinical Trial to test a new drug, called a VEGF Trap. We have opted to participate in the clinical trial. The chemo will be given by IV, every two weeks, starting Tuesday, Jan 11. The list of possible side effects is pretty long and there's no way to know which ones he'll have.
Thanks for checking on us, and for praying that the new treatment will be effective, and the side effects will be manageable. I promise to be a little better about posting Bobby's progress!
