The first dose of AVE0005 (also called VEGF Trap or aflibercept) went rather uneventfully. There were a lot of baseline questions, a physical exam, blood work, then about an hour of IV infusion. No immediate side effects, other than Bobby was sleepy/tired most of the afternoon. He felt well enough to go to a new Bible Study we are starting at our church that evening. Since then, he's had a come & go headache and an unusual taste in his mouth. Nothing too severe, but after the last month of no chemo, he realized what normal could feel like and was not excited about dealing with new side effects.
The doses will be every two weeks, scheduled for Tuesdays at this point. After two months, we'll get a catscan and check the progress.
For those interested in a bit of the science of all this, here's the link to the Clinical Trials database for the specific trial in which Bobby is enrolled. Happy Reading!
