Back on Track

It's been an eventful week.  After beginning to accept the possibility of not doing surgery, and considering the other options, we had a turn of events last Friday. 

Bobby's sister Nancy is a Nurse Practitioner in Memphis, and was able to have Bobby's case reviewed by a team of physicians at the University of Tennessee Medical School. They made a pretty emphatic recommendation that Bobby have the adrenal gland removed, then deal with whatever might be happening in the lung at a later date.  In fact, they suggested removing both adrenal glands, since at one time there was a tumor in the right gland.  But we aren't comfortable doing that because of the complications involved in replacing the hormones secreted by the adrenal (cortisol & adrenaline). We are thankful for Nancy taking the initiative to get this review and for the team generously offering their time and expertise. 

We visited with Dr Keller on Friday and he is in agreement with the plan.  He said this is one of those situations where it is difficult to recommend which course to take as there is medical rationale on both sides.  He did mention that Bobby's physical fitness, and his ability to handle surgery, is a big factor. We really respect Dr Keller's expertise, and his willingness to consider our wishes.

Yesterday, we received the call from Dr Cook's (urologist) office that surgery has been scheduled for Wednesday, Sept 29th.  It's good to have it on the calendar now, so we can start making plans, and we are looking forward to getting this behind us. 

The DAM JAM bike race is tomorrow. Bobby and his riding buddy Lloyd will be riding 55 miles on a scenic ride through the hills and lakesides of northeast Oklahoma.  Should be fun.

Thanks for praying for a complication-free surgery, a smooth and quick recovery, and complete healing.  And equally important, pray for continued peace and steadfast trust for the future.
